White and Pianka Statement on the Raritan Township Committee's Call for Stormwater Utility Review
We can all agree a review of the stormwater utility is due. But are the people who created this debacle the ones who should lead it?
Mayor Brad Perry and the Township Committee's call to "review" the stormwater utility looks like an attempt to outrun a problem of their own making. In 2025, the Committee commissioned a feasibility study, held public meetings, and voted unanimously to create this utility. Perry is the Committee's own liaison to the Stormwater Utility, which makes his sudden change of heart worth a closer look.
This Committee collected a lot of our money in the name of protecting our community from flooding and keeping our drinking water safe.
This review feels like a distraction from what's really needed: an honest look at how our money was spent, and the promises made and broken along the way. Here's what we found.
The only thing the Committee can assure the public of: they created the stormwater utility, then collected and borrowed money at taxpayers' expense. If past decisions tell us anything, unspent money will keep vanishing into the Township's general fund while Committee members tell us half stories about our taxes.
This isn't an argument about the utility. It's an argument for real accountability. After how this program has been run, can taxpayers trust Brad Perry and this Township Committee at all? We believe it's time for new voices who are accountable to taxpayers and will make smarter decisions.
We humbly ask for your vote for White and Pianka on or before November 3rd.
